preparing for your first visit
We understand that coming to therapy for the first time can be an anxiety provoking experience. Here are a few things you can do to prepare for your first visit and what you can expect on the day of your appointment.
Prior to Your First Appointment
During the initial phone consultation, you will provide any insurance coverage you want to use for your therapy visits. As a courtesy, our office will verify your insurance benefits and provide a benefits quote regarding coverage for mental health services including copay amounts.
- • Payment is expected at the time of the appointment and may be made by personal check, cash, or credit card.
- • Have your initial paperwork printed and completed before arriving and bring them with you to the first appointment. We will discuss confidentiality, fees, and scheduling during the first appointment.

During Your First Appointment
- • When you arrive for your first appointment in the Round Rock office, you will enter the building into a private waiting area where you can wait for the start of your appointment. There is no receptionist, so you may have a seat and your therapist will be with you shortly. When you arrive for your first appointment in the Rockport office, there will be an conference room across the hallway where you can have a seat and your therapist will be with you at the start of your appointment.
- • Your session will last approximately 45-50 minutes. The first appointment is typically focused on gathering information regarding the concerns that are bringing you to therapy, exploring your goals for therapy, and discussing the appropriate treatment options.
- • At the conclusion of your initial appointment, a plan for your next step will be agreed upon. This may include referrals to other resources that may be helpful to you and/or scheduling ongoing therapy sessions to begin your treatment process. Therapy sessions are typically on a weekly or biweekly basis, though other accommodations may be appropriate in various circumstances.
